Baking her way through unemployment
Andrea Katz of Evanston lost her job nearly 2 years ago. Now, she is supplementing her income by baking cookies and selling them at her local farmer's market.
Katz always loved to bake, ever since she was in college. She never really thought much of it, until she was laid off from her kitchen consulting job in 2009. After she couldn't find another job, she began tweaking cookie recipes and adding her own spin on them. She would sell them to friends and even began selling them at the Ridgeville Farmers' Market in Evanston (every Wednesday from 3:30-7p through October 12th).
While she's not making nearly as much money as she was, Katz still has a positive outlook on her new chapter in life. She just recently started working in the natural living section of the new Wild & Greene Natural Supermarket in Skokie, but she's still going to sell her cookies.
