Fat Tuesday and Paczki Day
Ji is on location at Delightful Pastries in Jefferson Park for the festivities!
Ji headed to arguably the best place to be on Paczki Day in Chicago: Delightful Pastries (www.delightfulpastries.com) in Jefferson Park which has been serving Paczki since 1989 by the daughter-and-mother team of Dobra Bielinski and Stasia Hawyrszczuk.
Chicago is the only city in the world that widely celebrates Paczki Day on both Fat Thursday & Fat Tuesday. It's a much-enjoyed Catholic-related tradition that marks the end of carnival season and the arrival of Lent. Thousands of Polish Chicagoans, as well as other pastry lovers, will be lining up at bakeries today to buy dozens of Polish-style doughnuts called Paczki. A paczek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with sweet filling.
Paczki can be found here year-round, but some bakeries only offer old world fillings like prune or rose hip Tuesday, along with new world favorites like custard and chocolate fudge.
