Girl Walks into a Bar... Comedy Calamities, Dating Disasters, and a Midlife Miracle

By Rachel Dratch

"'What happened to you?!'" That's the question a stranger asked of Rachel Dratch as she emerged from her neighborhood Starbucks recently. "'You know who that is?'" he said to his friend. "'SNL! SNL, man&. She's funny!'"

"Anyone who has tuned to "Saturday Night Live" in the last decade will recognize Rachel Dratch immediately. A seven-year veteran of "SNL," Dratch is best known for her wicked impersonation of Calista Flockhart, her "Lovers" skits with Will Ferrell, her Boston teens "Sully and Denise" with Jimmy Fallon, and especially, the queen of depressing non-sequiturs, "Debbie Downer" (Sound trombone: WAAAAH WAAAAAH!).

"GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR&Comedy Calamities, Dating Disasters, and a Midlife Miracle (Gotham; March 2012) is Rachel Dratch's unexpected and uplifting response to "What happened to you?": "This book starts off by talking about Showbiz for while," she explains. "But I assure you, it is actually not about Showbiz. It's about Not Showbiz, and what happened to my life when Not Showbiz became my un-chosen profession...."
